The game of politics just started. Who becomes relevant, and the deals to be made. At the end of it all, whatever the case, it will end well for PDP.

THE PAIN DAN ORBIH CAUSED
Chapter Three
As Chief Dan Osi Orbih continued to pilfer the party funds, he left the PDP Edo State at great disadvantage. We continue to expose this monster in our mist, so that we know exactly what we are dealing with. Keeping quiet has done us no good. We want to win, and we must have a fighting chance.
- In the 2015 general elections, Chief Tony Anenih made a case for the aspirants in Edo state for their money used in purchasing nomination forms be returned to them, since we did not have a governor. The national body obliged and sent Three Hundred Seven Million Naira to Dan Orbih for onwards return to the aspirants, so that they could assist the party in the elections. Dan Orbih took the money for himself.
- Senator Matthew Urhoghide expressed surprise in a stake holders meeting when it was disclosed that the party was owing rent in arrears for its headquarters. The Senator had sent money to Dan Orbih to assist with the payment of rent for same.
- Delta state governor, Okowa revealed that he gave Dan Orbih Five Million Naira monthly to run the party, provision was to be made to pay salaries and smooth running of the State secretariat, money sent to the LGA and Ward Chairmen to hold bi-monthly meetings. Every single LGA Chairman during the period of 3 years since 2016 will attest that they never received money from the state. Dan Orbih once again has never accounted for such money not even to his Exco. When Governor Okowa found out that not even the salaries of the staff at the party secretariat had been paid for a period of 6 months, he stopped making provision to the state.
- In 2015 during the presidential elections Eight Hundred Million Naira was sent to Edo State for the presidential elections before it was postponed to a later date. Dan Orbih claimed that he had already distributed the funds and another Seven Hundred Million was sent. However, every LGA Chairman during period knows that no money was sent to them.
- During the 2015 general elections, the sum of Seven Hundred Million was released to Edo State for the House of Assembly elections. 10 million Naira was to be given to each of the party’s candidate for his/her election. Rather the rumor was spread that the then president did not provide money for the election because he lost his. It is the Seven Hundred Million Naira that Dan Orbih faces money laundry charges in court brought by the EFCC.
- On the day of the Supreme Court judgement between the PDP Governorship Candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Godwin Obaseki, Dan Orbih collected the sum of Five Hundred Million Naira from Chief Tony Anenih to service the case. It turned out to be a big fraud. Chief Tony Anenih insisted on him refunding the money until his death. Dan Orbih, because of that never went to see Chief Anenih in his last days.
- Many of us may recall when Governor Nyesom Wike of River State attacked our leaders in Edo State claiming that he was the owner and the leader of the PDP Edo. This met with serious opposition and challenged by them. Governor Wike revealed that he had been giving Dan Orbih Twenty-Five Million Naira monthly for the servicing of the party structure and the running of the party. Our leaders were surprised to know this, they too had been giving money to Dan Orbih upon his request to meet with the needs of the party.
Chief Tom Ikimi accused Gov. Wike of funding his friend, Dan Orbih when Wike claimed to have spent billions on PDP Edo State through Dan Orbih. Never once did Dan Orbih account for the money to the party and all went to his pocket.
You will note that Dan Orbih as a State Chairman never won elections in Edo North on the field. Dan Orbih was also used to field APC members in elections and when they did not win returned to the APC. To win his unit in the 2019 election, Dan Orbih was given sixty million naira, while loyal party men were given One Hundred Thousand Naira, with some units even less.
One thing is sure, Dan Orbih has never supported any aspirant that can win elections for the PDP. In 2015, against all sense of reasoning, Dan Orbih forced his stooge, Barr. Paschal Ugbomeh on the party as its Edo North Senatorial candidate instead of the more popular Abubakar Momoh. Of course, we lost the elections. He didn’t stop there, then imposed Hon. Johnson Abolagba on the people of Owan West in the last elections, claiming an inconclusive election against the party constitution of a simple majority.
Even as he left, Dan Orbih left the party in crisis and divided. He conducted the worst congresses the party has ever had planting failures like himself in the state working committee.
The National Assembly and BOT members of the party in Edo state did not attend the state congress because of the irregularities perpetuated by Dan Orbih. Today, there are 9 cases in courts concerning the congress. As a failure he has left no legacy. Instead he continues to dare the Leaders of the party even as a past state chairman by having the Edo South senatorial chairman, Barr. Nosa Okunbor-Ogieva call a meeting contrary to the decision of the Party by claiming zoning for the governorship 2020. A gathering that insults Super Leaders like Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, former Governor of Edo State, and many others who hold the party together at all levels and hailing from the Edo South Senatorial District.
His accomplices continue to threaten party members who refuse to do his bidding. They are relentless in breaking the party and selling it to the highest bidder in the next elections. This time there will be a reaction.

DAN ORBIH’S EVIL ENTRANCE INTO PDP
Chapter One
This is how it all began.
There were Parallel Congresses held simultaneously across the state. One was led by Late Chief Tony Anenih, which produced the Chief Dan Orbih led State Executives and the other by Sen. Prof. Osereimen Osunbor which produced the Barr. Edward Sadoh led Executives. The National body of the party recognized the Barr. Edward Sadoh Executive. They took over the PDP State Secretariat. This led to the opening of another State Secretariat by the Dan Orbih Executives. It is of note that the parallel PDP State congress at that time led to the removal of Sen. Prof. Osereimen Osunbor as Edo State Governor (The lying tongue & evil schemes of Orbih that led to Osunbor’s removal: The beginning of PDP woes – details in the coming chapter)
Some PDP leaders went to court to challenge the existence of Orbih led Executives. This development created bad blood among party members which led to the dissolution of both Executives by the National body of the Party. The National body called for harmonization between Late Chief Tony Anenih and Sen. Prof. Osereimen Osunbor. At the point of harmonization, the position of State Chairman was conceded to Chief Tony Anenih while the position of Deputy State Chairman and State Secretary was given to the Prof. Osunbor group. It was the harmonization that brought in Late Hon. Barr. Samson EKHABAFE as Edo PDP State Chairman.
From the day Ekhabafe became State Chairman, he never knew peace in the hands of Dan Orbih (the birth of evil scheming). As Ekhabafe was busy reconciling aggrieved party members and speaking to those in court to withdraw from court, he was at the same time reporting to some leaders that Dan Orbih was not happy with his new position as State Chairman. He complained about Dan Orbih’s attitude towards him till his mysterious death by ghastly accident.
He was on his usual political visit to Edo North, when on his return to Benin the news of his death came as a shock. He died together with his Son (a lawyer), his driver and orderly. Immediately Ekhabafe was buried, Chief Dan Orbih began to lobby Late Chief Tony Anenih to allow him succeed Late Samson Ekhabafe using some leaders that were close to Chief Anenih. At last, Orbih had his way. When he discovered some party leaders were heading to court to challenge his emergence he hurriedly rushed to Port- Harcourt out of his desperation to take his first oath of office as State Chairman.
Sometime in 2009, Chief Dan Osi Orbih came on board as PDP State Chairman, heralding the beginning of failure, sellout of votes to APC and on the payroll of Adams Oshiomhole (details in the coming chapters). This was only possible after the sudden and untimely death of Hon. Barr. Samson EKHABAFE in a mysterious way. The way and manner his death came is still a nightmare to so many political players and the general public.
Chief Dan Orbih’s era as State Chairman brought woe & setback to PDP in the last 11 years – the time for PDP to move forward without a trace of Evil is now.
To be continued…

THE SINS OF DAN ORBIH: Part One
- This is a series to highlight the atrocities of a wicked and greedy man
To political watchers outside Edo state, the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) looks set to take over power from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in September 2020. The crisis in the APC is in every way, irreconcilable. The PDP only needs to conduct a free and fair primary to choose a governorship candidate and that will be all.

Is the trial of Chief Dan Orbih, Shekarau and the others, not one of the entire Nigerian political class?
The rumor slowly but steadily made the rounds. It then gained momentum that the APC controlled Federal Government planned to put many political opponents on trial for allegedly spending public funds on political campaigns, as part of the “fight” against corruption. Unsuspecting members of the public welcomed it.
The likes of Oliseh Metuh who was at one time Publicity Secretary of PDP and a few others were arrested. They were thereafter arraigned in a court of law.
Metuh was accused of receiving money traceable to the Office of the National Security Adviser. There was a huge applause. Suddenly, it dawned on President Buhari and his Government that such involvement was amongst persons few and far between. There was no significant political capital to be made out of such exercise. They changed the narrative in the middle of the game.
The chase shifted to any political opponent who purportedly shared campaign funds. It didn’t matter whether it was public funds or purpose-driven generated private funds for a political event. As far as this Government was concerned, any politician who is said to have distributed campaign-funds in support of PDP in the 2015 presidential election and refused to decamp to the ruling APC is a thief who should be in jail. For those who could not stand the heat, they got the message and did the needful. Their sins were quickly forgiven. For those who remained faithful to their political party, they became endangered species.
So the likes of Chief Dan Orbih who is chairman of PDP in Edo State and Pastor Ize-Iyamu who was PDP’s governorship candidate in the same State were arrested and charged before the Federal High court in Benin City by EFCC, the persecution agency of Buhari’s Government. Elsewhere, HE Shekarau of Kano State PDP, HE Shagari of Sokoto State PDP were arrested with others and similarly arraigned in the same court in their respective States for the same reason.
Their crime is that they are believed to have distributed campaign funds in excess of five million naira contrary to section 1(a) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011 ( As amended by the 2012 Act) in 2015. This time around, it was clearly established that the funds that they allegedly distributed were from donations and contributions by individuals and private companies and ware-housed by one of the Commercial banks. The bank undertook to distribute the said funds to the various States using their outlets nation wide. The donated funds received by the various PDP chapters were distributed through the chain of party hierarchy down the line for campaigns and the eventual general elections of 2015.
There was no difference in the preparations of APC. As a party, it raised funds from individuals, private companies and even from Public sources from the States of the Federation within their control. By charging the PDP operatives with money laundering, is the Buhari Government suggesting that members of APC and those of other political parties never distributed such funds for campaign and election purposes during the period under reference? They can tell that to the marines. The other parties distributed funds likewise.
How were the funds that delegates received in Lagos during the APC primaries that produced President Buhari shared? Were they distributed to their delegates through financial institutions? How did APC distribute the funds which were used during the primaries of the party that produced Governor Obaseki in Edo State as candidate of the party and the governorship election that followed? His challengers in the primaries cried out at the time that they were outspent with most delegates receiving about #300,000 each. Over 2000 delegates received that amount at different locations within Edo State from various sharing points where hundred of millions of naira were disbursed.
Only recently in Ekiti, the APC primaries were fought with naira for naira. One candidate came into the State with loads of money worth hundreds of millions of naira. The money was shared in cash to the delegates before the said primaries. What was different from what they did in Ekiti and what the PDP stalwarts now on trial did with the campaign funds raised for that purpose? None, I believe.
As far as I know, the use of cash to induce delegates for primary tickets of political parties is not peculiar to PDP. In the same vein, the distribution of funds by cash to prepare for campaigns and elections in Nigeria is also not limited to PDP as a political party. They are common to all the parties. They all do it and are perhaps preparing to do it again in 2019.
Any Government that wishes to be taken seriously by citizens under its watch, must largely uphold the rule of law in a constitutional democracy like ours. One of the non-negotiable elements of the rule of law is equality before the law. In other words, every one must be treated equally before the law irrespective of class, creed, religion, tribe or political party affiliation. Sadly, this is not the case in our country.
If the Buhari regime really means business about trying stalwarts of political parties for money laundering each time they distribute sums of money over five million naira as campaign funds, the government would need to build many more prison yards to accommodate the hundreds of political leaders who help political parties to distribute billions of naira nation wide for both intra-party and inter-party political contest. If that were so, President Buhari may just find out that more than half of those that would populate the prison yards are his party men and women. That is how bad it is.
It amounts to sheer hypocrisy and cheap competition tactics for President Buhari’s Government to hound his challengers for political power by raising criminal charges against them in respect of political practices that the ruling party itself has perfected. If President Buhari really wants to fight corruption, he should turn his attention to the Police, Civil Service, Parastatals, CBN and its foreign exchange deals, NNPC and its questionable transactions. They are all still in business as usual as nothing has changed. The only substantial difference is that the circle of looters of public funds has narrowed down to a few, while the the hunger and want of the populace appears to be on the increase.
To the political party stalwarts who are on trial for money laundering for distributing campaign funds made available to them by their party, they should weep not. Their real crime is their challenge for power and not the distribution of campaign funds which the entire political class, including the President’s party men freely engage in. They are only a metaphor for the entire political class which in my own opinion is on trial for what they are reputed for. Its all crass policy hypocrisy and Nigerians know it.

Sheriff and PDP – The facts
By Omololu Ojehomon-Ogbeni
It doesn’t take a genuine to know that the amendment made to the PDP’s constitution was to create a balance of affairs within the party. Even though the North wanted the presidency in 2015, the party had agreed to return Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as president. It meant the position of National Chairman was zoned to the North, the term for this office ends in 2018.
After the elections the party was in crisis, Muazu was removed and was replaced by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff from the same zone in March 2016 as stated in the party’s constitution, the same constitution also states that the replacement serves out the existing term. Sen. Sheriff was perfect for the party, they needed someone who could take over the financial responsibility of the party and take care of its debt, which he did, paying backlog secretariat salaries for up to six months and handled all maintenance and party problems.
On May 12, 2016, Judgement was granted in favor of Senator Sheriff and two others, for the following, the position of National Chairman is not vacant until 2018 and the positions of National Secretary and National Auditor are not vacant until 2017. This was not appealed by anyone singularly or collectively as the PDP and the Judgement held.
On May 21, 2016 during the Port Harcourt Convention was stopped by a court injunction filed by a faction of the party which also tried to hold its convention in Abuja a similar court injunction also prevented them from holding and agreed to reconciliation. It was Senator Modu Sheriff who notified the press of this injunction and that the convention could not hold because of it. However, there was a turning point when Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as the convention chairman moved a motion to have a caretaker committee which brought in Senator Markarfi as Chairman.
On June 3, 2016, Premium Times Newspaper reported on a conversation on Ray Power FM Radio Station Program “POLITICAL PLATFORM” on the Port Harcourt convention in which the INEC’s Deputy Director for Public Affairs, Nick Dazang was guest.
He was quoted as follows: “We sent a high powered team led by a National Commissioner to monitor the convention. They have submitted their report as at now, but the Commission is yet to take a position in terms of who is supposed to be the chairman of the party. I expect that a very responsible party, a formidable party of that matter like the PDP will put its act together in time for it particularly to collect the forms for those that will conduct the elections in Edo and Ondo and also to conduct the primaries that will lead up to who will now be their standard bearer for Edo Governorship election to be conducted on Saturday, 10th September. The Primaries are supposed to take place between 2nd June and 4th July, so we expect that between now and then the PDP should be able to resolve some of these issues in the interest of that election.”
On June 20, 2016: Edo State primaries to elect a candidate of the party was conducted by the illegal Markarfi – Led Caretaker Committee.
As regards the conduct of the primaries in Edo State there were at least three PDP constitutional violations as follows.
- That one of the aspirants Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who participated was not qualified to participate in it.
- He had not done two years in the party which disqualified him.
- He did not have a waiver from the National Chairman which also disqualified him
- The state Chairman violated the party’s constitution when he refused to conduct new congress for the primary which will produce the delegates that will vote, rather used the doctored listed of the state congress that returned him to office.
- Senator Markarfi cannot conduct primaries in Edo State when there is a judgment from May 12, 2016 that retains Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the Chairman of the party until 2018 as is constitutionally correct.
On June 21, 2016 the Sheriff-led NEC of the PDP declared the June 20, primaries conducted by the Markarfi – Led Caretaker Committee as illegal and set June 23 – 29, 2016 as dates for PDP congress in Edo State. Media reported this was communicated to the Chairman of INEC.
Vanguard Newspaper Headline, “WE CAN’T MONITOR SHERIFF’S SHOW – INEC, on June 27, 2016 quoted Nick Dazang of INEC as saying, “INEC is yet to take a decision on that, even though I learnt Alhaji Modu Sheriff has written the Commission to say that he intends to hold one (primary), and that even though INEC monitored the recent PDP primaries, it is awaiting the judgement of the Appeal Court scheduled for 4th July. The judgement will determine which faction the Commission will recognize and was reported to have said that who made the position of the commission known, noted that timetable and schedule of activities of Edo Governorship provides that primaries are to take place between June 2 and July 4th. He said that the Sheriff’s faction had fallen short of the requirement for 21-day notice to INEC.
On June 29, 2016, the Sheriff-led NEC of PDP conducted Edo State gubernatorial primaries and Hon. Matthew Iduorieyekhemwen was declared winner and candidate of the party.
On July 1, 2016, Justice Okon Abang – Led Federal High Court in Abuja granted an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting list of candidates for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo from other leadership of the party, except from the Ali Modu Sheriff-led National Working Committee (NWC). The presiding judge directed INEC, the party and their agents to “recognize, deal with and accord all facilities required by law to the Modu Sheriff-Led NWC in the conduct of Edo and Ondo governorship elections. Injunction published in the national dailies.
On July 4, 2018, A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt purportedly declared the May 21, 2016 National Convention of the PDP was duly constituted that elected the unconstitutional Markarfi – Led Caretaker Committee. Please keep in mind that there was an injunction stopping the convention which was honored by Senator Modu Sheriff, the PDP National Chairman. Therefore, anything that happened at that was convention is illegal, null and void.
On July 9, 2016, Nick Dazang of the INEC stated that the Commission had not taken any decision on which candidate to accept and also said, “…as at now we have not received the certified true copy of the July 4 judgment of a Federal High Court, Port Harcourt on the matter. We are waiting for that judgment and other judgments so that we can study them. The commission, after studying the judgment and the advice from its lawyers, will then take a position, but we are still waiting for the last judgment which was the one on July 4. It will be like from next week by the time we receive them and when the commission sits, a position will be taken. It is when the commission has done that that it will then decide on any faction or candidate it is going to accept.
On July 12, 2016, Media reported that the INEC had rejected the Sheriff-led NEC list because on July 11, 2016, Nick Dazang of INEC was reported to have said that the commission had rejected the list because it did not monitor the primary that produced Hon. Matthew Iduorieyekhemwen. On July 18 a list purportedly signed by INEC’s legal services, Mr. Matthew Ugwuocha in Benin was made available to News Agency of Nigeria according to media reports for 19 political parties.
On July 28, 2016, Federal High Court in Abuja sacked Markarfi as National Chairman and reaffirmed Sheriff as the national Chairman and held that every action the committee had taken since it emerged through a convention the party purportedly held in Port Harcourt on May 21, amounted to nullity. And that having regard to the order of the court, PDP had no lawful authority to hold the convention that led to the emergence of the Markarfi-led Committee.”
It went on to say, “The convention was unlawfully held and the caretaker committee was unlawfully and illegally appointed and could not take any legal decision for the PDP in view of the subsisting order of the Lagos Division of this court. Consequently, any action taken by the Markarfi-led Committee, including the purported mandate for legal representation in this matter is hereby declared illegal. Parties have an uncompromising duty to obey court orders until it is set aside. The Lagos Division made order on May 12 and 20, forbidding the PDP from removing the Sheriff-led Caretaker Committee. That order is still subsisting.” And that Ali Modu Sheriff is the National Chairman of the PDP. Any decision NOT taken by the Sheriff-Led Committee is NOT binding on the PDP.
On August 9, 2016, INEC notified the public of plans to release the final list of gubernatorial candidates of Edo State September election. On August 11, 2016 INEC released on its website the list which included Edo State – Osagie Ize-Iyamu (by Court Order) signed by the secretary, Mrs. Augusta C. Ogakwu. Till date there is no court order supporting this sham and a clear violation of the judgment on July 28, 2016.
Recently on August 17, 2016 Justice Valentine Ashi had in his judgment nullified the 2014 PDP Constitution amendment upon which Senator Sheriff is said to have been appointed as PDP Chairman. The court described the amendment of the party’s constitution as illegal and a violation of the Electoral Act and, therefore, declared all actions carried out with the document including anybody parading himself or herself as officer of the party as illegal.
He went to say, “However, the court voided the said amendment on the basis that there was no compliance with mandatory provisions of Article 66 (2) and (3) of the PDP constitution.”
Now, we must believe that this matter starts from the time of Adamu Muazu, it was this amendment that brought him in as the PDP National Chairman, and Sheriff was not in position then, everything that Mauzu did based on this amendment is illegal, including the nomination of the president, the governors, National Assembly members, the Edo State primary, etc.
Whether PDP will remain as a party is another matter, because for obvious reasons it seems the center is falling apart.

Edo 2016: Court Restrains Orbih-led PDP from Conducting Congresses
BENIN – An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin yesterday restrained the leadership of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Chief Orbih, from conducting the party’s congresses until the hearing of the substantive matter brought before it.
It will be recalled that Mr. Ehi Osula, from Ward 12 Oredo, and others, had approached the court in Benin urging it to declare as illegal the continued stay in office of the current leadership of the party whose tenure expired on September 24, 2015.
But despite the suit the Orbih-led PDP allegedly concluded plans to conduct congresses across the 192 wards in the state on February 24, 2016, ahead of the forth coming governorship election in the state.
The claimant through his counsel Matthew Edaghese asked the court the restrain the Chief Orbih-led Exco from conducting the congresses until hearing of the motion on notice. Trial judge, Justice Ikpomnwen in his ruling granted the injunction and adjourned further hearing till February 29, 2016.
